Wonder Chapter 11 -13

This week for reading, we continued our novel study for the text “Wonder” by RJ Palacio.

We had to read Chapters 11 to 13, then complete the tasks that went with them.

My favourite task was creating a text message conversation between the characters.  I did well at completing all the slides on time.

I need to improve on how I visualise a passage of text.

I enjoyed when we had to read the story and write about it.

This term in reading we are diving into a novel study for the book “Wonder” by R.J. Palacio.  This week we are focusing on what we can learn about the characters, especially through their dialogue.  Characters’ thoughts and feelings can be revealed through their dialogue.  This allows readers to make inferences about their internal perspectives and motivations.

We read Part One Chapters 5-7 which was about…

Our first task was to choose dialogue from the relevant chapter and use the dialogue to infer what each of the characters’ thoughts may have been.

Our second task was to imagine we are part of a welcoming committee at Beecher Prep, and create a warm and inviting poster to welcome August, the main character in the story. Our poster had to reflect the school’s values of kindness, inclusivity, and diversity.

I enjoyed this fun task

I need to improve on longer words

I did well at finshing it .

Vocabulary and Fluency

This week for reading we did 3 activities.  We were focusing on vocabulary.  Understanding and learning new vocabulary will help us alot in our reading.

The first task we did was  start our Read Aloud slides. We had to take a pictures of one of the pages from our book and record ourselves reading the page and then put the link in our hand it in spreadsheet.  We also marked ourselves on a fluency rubric.

The next one was when you had to choose A or B and read the sentence and say if the word fits better in sentence A or B.

The last one is when you had to put a tick under  these : Never seen this word before’Seen it but don’t know what it mean’Sort of know what it means’ Can explain what it means” and if there were any ticks under the first three columns, you wold have to put the words in jail until you could bail them out.  To get the words out of jail, we had to SACAWAC them.

I did well at completing all my tasks.  I need to improve on…

I enjoyed doing different tasks this week.
